Abstract: Prestressed concrete is a kind of reinforced concrete where we put compressive stresses inside it before we add any external loads. We do this by using high-strength steel tendons inside the concrete and then tightening them. It is not very good at handling tension so we add pre-compression to minimize or get rid of tensile stresses when it is being used. This means that prestressed concrete has cracking can handle more weight does not bend as much and lasts longer. A typical post-tensioning strand is really strong with a strength of 1860 N/mm², which is much stronger than the steel we normally use which has a strength of about 500-600 N/mm². For this project we used M40 grade concrete. We added something called Alccofine to the cement to make the concrete stronger and more durable. We did the prestressing after the concrete had been curing for seven days when it was strong enough to handle it. We used a machine to tighten the tendons and add the right amount of tension.

We also used prestressing to make the concrete last longer and handle weight. A comparison was also made between post-tensioned members and conventional reinforced cement concrete (RCC) members of the same span, including a detailed cost analysis. Through this project, we also learned important aspects of professional construction practices and site management.
