Research quality, visibility, and academic impact are key to a successful academic career. Publishing research papers alone may not be sufficient to achieve wider recognition. Researchers need to improve the quality of their research, select suitable journals, maintain strong academic profiles, and effectively disseminate their work. This review presents a simple strategic roadmap for enhancing research quality, visibility, scholarly profiles, and citation metrics. It focuses on selecting relevant research topics, defining clear objectives, using appropriate methodology, presenting results effectively, and publishing in suitable peer-reviewed journals. The review also highlights the importance of maintaining updated profiles on ORCID, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, and ResearchGate. Open-access publishing, conferences, seminars, academic networking, social-media communication, and genuine research collaborations are discussed as useful approaches for increasing research visibility. The review further explains the importance of citation indicators such as citation count, h-index, and i10-index, while emphasising that citations should be achieved through valuable and accessible research rather than unethical practices. Research integrity, avoidance of plagiarism, correct referencing, and responsible citation practices are also highlighted. Overall, the proposed roadmap provides researchers with a practical approach to move from quality research to effective publication, greater visibility, legitimate citations, and improved academic impact.
