Abstract:    This study aims to explore the pre-service teachers’ uses of AI tools in the teaching process and analyse them in the light of demographic variables like gender, academic level, field of study, age group and type of area. The study adopted a survey type quantitative research design. The population of the study was all the pre-service teachers studying in the Regional Institute of Education, Mysore. Samples of 150 students were selected using convenience sampling. Simple percentage analysis was used for analysing the data. It was found that almost all the pre-service teachers used ChatGPT for assistance in various aspects of teaching-learning process identified in the study, at the same time only more than 50% of them used Google Gemini for the same. The study also revealed that there were no much differences in the non-use of AI tools across the various demographic variables considered in the study. However, there were observable differences in the very frequent use of AI tools in the teaching-learning process based on gender, academic level (undergraduate vs. postgraduate), field of study (sciences vs. humanities), age group (17-22 vs. above 22), and type of area (rural vs. urban).
