The technology has found applications in various fields, including chemistry, biology, medicine, physics, and electronics. Lately, there has been an interest in developing ecologically sustainable methods for the synthesis of nanoparticles by utilizing some unique properties of biomaterials derived from various live organisms as they may offer added advantages such as biocompatibility and low toxicity. This book chapter focuses on different algae groups, including micro- and macro-algae and diatoms, and the distinct properties offered by each group pertaining to the production of biomolecules such as polysaccharides, proteins, silica, and pigments, that exhibit unique designs, antioxidant and reducing properties. Such biomolecules can be highly beneficial for the green synthesis of nanoparticles. Furthermore, the chapter delves into the characterization and applications of algae-derived nanoparticles in the fields of medicine, agriculture, and environmental science. The chapter will also cover recent advances catalyzing newer post-genomics innovations, leading to convergences between omics and nanotechnology, related challenges, and future scope.
