The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) is one of India’s most significant poverty alleviation initiatives, designed to enhance livelihood security by providing guaranteed wage employment to rural households. This study analyzes the implementation and impact of MGNREGS in the Raichur district of Karnataka. Data were collected from selected Gram Panchayats through primary surveys and secondary government reports. The analysis focuses on employment generation, wage distribution, asset creation, and the scheme’s effectiveness in reducing rural poverty and migration. The findings indicate that MGNREGS has significantly improved rural livelihoods by providing regular wage employment and empowering marginalized groups, though administrative challenges and delayed wage payments persist. Recommendations are offered to enhance program efficiency and sustainability.
