The rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has significantly increased reliance on low-power wireless communication protocols. While these technologies enable scalable and cost-effective deployments, they also introduce critical security risks due to limited computational resources, weak authentication mechanisms, and insufficient encryption practices. The CC1101 sub-1 GHz transceiver is widely used in IoT systems for short- and medium-range communication, making it a relevant target for security evaluation. This research presents a comprehensive and systematic methodology for security and vulnerability testing of wireless communication systems built using the CC1101 module and Bruce Firmware. The study focuses on data integrity, encryption robustness, authentication and authorization mechanisms, and simulated attack scenarios including replay attacks, denial-of-service (DoS), and man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks. The paper proposes a structured penetration testing framework, supported by flowcharts, experimental setup, sample datasets, and observed outputs. The results demonstrate common weaknesses in default firmware configurations and highlight the effectiveness of layered security mechanisms such as AES encryption, rolling codes, and secure re-authentication strategies.
