Abstract: Rabindranath Tagore’s feminist vision is deeply embedded in his literary works, particularly in his poetry, fiction, and plays, where he consistently champions women’s rights to intellectual and personal freedom. Born in a society steeped in tradition and rigid customs, Tagore developed a remarkably liberal mindset that was not strictly feminist in the modern sense but was grounded in a broader humanist perspective that gave a dominant voice to his female protagonists. His upbringing, heavily influenced by his sisters, elder brother .To understands Tagore’s women, it is important to place them in their historical context. The late nineteenth century was a turbulent time in Bengal. On one hand, there was the strong grip of orthodox Hindu customs, where women were denied education, child marriage was common, and the question of widow remarriage was fiercely debated. On the other hand, colonial education and exposure to Western liberal thought gave birth to the Bengal Renaissance, which emphasized reason, progress, and reform. Women found themselves caught at the crossroads of these competing forces. This research paper focuses on female protagonists by analyzing the different portrayal of women. Tagore portray the merciless society has obstructed the thoughts of the women to convey their thoughts and feelings.
