DOIs:10.2015/IJIRMF/202603025     |     Paper ID: IJIRMF202603025Gelsemium species have attracted increasing scientific interest due to their potential anxiolytic and stress-modulating properties. Recent pharmacological studies suggest that the bioactive alkaloids present in these plants influence inhibitory neurotransmission within the central nervous system by modulating glycinergic and GABAergic signaling pathways. These interactions appear to regulate neuronal excitability and may contribute to reductions in anxiety-like behaviors observed in experimental models. In addition, certain Gelsemium compounds stimulate the synthesis of neurosteroids such as allopregnanolone, which further enhances inhibitory neurotransmission and supports the regulation of stress responses. Literature review of many studies also indicated that Gelsemium extracts may influence multiple neuronal pathways involved in emotional processing and neurochemical balance. Although these findings highlight promising therapeutic potential for the development of novel anxiolytic agents, further research is necessary to fully understand the pharmacokinetics, safety, and clinical applicability of Gelsemium-derived compounds.
