ATTITUDE TOWARDS ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING: COMPARISON OF FISHERIES AND REGULAR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Learning a second language like English has different advantages directed towards three different levels of an individual, viz, personal level, community level and pragmatic level. Attitude and other affective variables have been found to be essential for language achievement. The aim of the present study is to compare the Attitude towards English Language Learning among fisheries and regular secondary school students. Descriptive survey method was utilised to collect the required data from a sample of 106 secondary school students. In order to collect the data from the sample, Secondary Student’s Attitude towards Learning English Language Scale was adapted. One sample t test and test of significance of difference between means for large independent samples were used to analyse the data. The results indicated that both fisheries and regular secondary school students have moderate level of Attitude towards English Language Learning. It was also evident that the regular secondary school students have higher Attitude Towards English Language Learning than the fisheries secondary school students.
