While post-independence policies have catalyzed significant advancements in literacy and healthcare, these island communities continue to grapple with economic stagnation, gender-based occupational disparities, and a persistent dependency on primary sector livelihoods. This paper provides a comprehensive sociological analysis of the developmental trajectory of Lakshadweep's tribal population, examining educational achievements, occupational structures, and the impact of governmental interventions. Drawing upon census data, governmental reports, recent scholarly literature, and contemporary policy debates, this study situates the Lakshadweep experience within broader discourses on tribal development in India. It critically evaluates the efficacy of existing welfare mechanisms and proposes a multi-pronged strategy for sustainable development that integrates ecological preservation, economic diversification, and cultural sensitivity. The findings reveal that while Lakshadweep has achieved remarkable literacy rates, the translation of educational attainment into meaningful economic mobility remains constrained by infrastructural deficits and limited vocational training. Furthermore, emerging land rights controversies and the tension between development imperatives and indigenous rights underscore the need for a paradigm shift from generalized welfare approaches to context-specific, community-centric models of empowerment.
