Abstract:

One of the most prevalent themes in Partition Narrations is identity crises. The characters in this story fight to define their identities and individuality as they are enmeshed in a maelstrom of assigned and attained identities. By concentrating on the thematic approach, this dissertation critically analyzes the identity crisis that the female characters in the Partition novels experience within the framework of comparative literary research. Women have traditionally given their lives during wartime. They have given up their bodies and their honor, and they are frequently the victims of sexualized violence. Their husband and children have been sacrificed by the enemy. They are the last to eat and seek medical care when resources are scarce. However, the above-mentioned sacrifices were not the only ones undertaken by Muslim and Indian women during India's division. During the bloody conflict, these women gave up not just their bodies but also their identities and spirits.
