Lightweight aggregates are used in concrete to improve thermal insulation, reduce dead load, and improve building seismic performance. The experimental investigation of lightweight aggregate concrete for structural applications is the main focus of this study, which compares its mechanical and physical characteristics to those of traditional normal weight concrete.
In this study, traditional coarse aggregates were partially replaced in concrete mixtures with lightweight aggregates. To investigate the impact of lightweight aggregates on concrete's density, flexural strength, split tensile strength, and compressive strength of M30 Grade concrete, various mix proportions were prepared. In compliance with pertinent design standards, such as the requirements of IS 456:2000. The experimental investigation's findings show that Lightweight Aggregate Concrete significantly reduces the dead load of structures by exhibiting a significant reduction in density when compared to conventional concrete.
The results of this study support the use of LWAC in cost-effective and sustainable construction methods and advance knowledge of its behavior. With advantages like lower material consumption, increased structural efficiency, and improved performance of reinforced concrete structures, the use of lightweight aggregates in concrete offers a promising alternative for contemporary structural engineering
