Over time, there have been substantial modifications to the notion of judicial interpretation of legislation. This study aims to provide a thorough examination of interpretation techniques and their use in contemporary culture. It explores the background of judicial interpretation across time, followed by a description of the many statutory interpretations and judicial strategies used in relation to them. Additionally, the study presents a detailed analysis of Benjamin Cardozo's methods of interpretation and exposes the reader to them. It examines the judicial interpretation methodology in India and exposes the reader to some important instances in the realm of interpretation and their importance in the legal field. The article's conclusion offers a clear separation of powers between the court and the legislative, as well as the necessity of a separate judiciary.

When determining the meaning of statutory language, the Court commonly uses canons of construction. For instance, while determining the meaning of certain words and phrases, the Court makes a distinction between terms of art that may have specialized definitions as well as other terms that often have a dictionary definition. Other canons include that particular statutory language usually takes precedence over contradictory general language, that all words in a legislation should be given effect if at all practicable, and that a term used more than once in a statute should typically be given the same meaning throughout. is typically a required caution since any of these canons can be overridden if the context clearly indicates a different interpretation.
