In the digital era, technologies such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Learning Management Systems (LMS), mobile learning, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and Open Educational Resources (OER) have significantly reshaped teaching and learning processes. This paper examines the role of educational technology in promoting sustainable development, with particular emphasis on Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and its interconnections with other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study adopts a qualitative research approach based on the analysis of secondary data collected from scholarly journals, books, government reports, UNESCO publications, and United Nations documents. The findings reveal that educational technology enhances inclusive and lifelong learning opportunities, promotes digital literacy, supports teacher professional development, and reduces educational disparities by extending learning opportunities to remote and marginalized communities. Furthermore, it contributes to environmental sustainability by encouraging paperless education, reducing resource consumption, and facilitating virtual learning environments. Despite these benefits, challenges such as the digital divide, inadequate infrastructure, limited teacher preparedness, cybersecurity concerns, and unequal access to digital resources continue to hinder its effective implementation. The paper concludes that educational technology is a critical enabler of sustainable development and recommends strengthening digital infrastructure, promoting equitable access, enhancing teachers’ digital competencies, and formulating inclusive technology policies to maximize its contribution to sustainable and resilient education systems.
